Joseph Patrick Shannon lost his battle with cancer on January 21, 2021, in Mansfield, Texas. He was 71 years old at the time of his passing.Joe was born in August 1949 to Lorraine and Leo Patrick Shannon in Spokane, Washington. Joe’s father was in the United States Air Force allowing him the opportunity to raise Joe and his brothers in multiple locations. While in high school, Joe attended a seminary in preparation for a life of a Catholic priest, but chose a different path for himself after graduating from the seminary. He attended and graduated from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology. Joe’s caring personality enabled him to excel in employment where he was able to help those in need. After graduating from college, Joe held jobs at the State of Texas Welfare Department and State of Texas Parole Department. Finally, in 1984 Joe landed his dream job at the United States Probation Office where he was able to help individuals correct their misguided behavior. After retiring in 2006, Joe worked for 8 years at the Tarrant County Health Department where he conducted investigations on those infected with tuberculosis.Once retired, Joe had ample time to volunteer with the maintenance committee at St. Jude Catholic Parish, in Mansfield, Texas. He found a home away from home at St. Jude Catholic Parish; in retrospect, he went full circle from his years at a Catholic high school seminary to donating his time to his parish and his Lord.Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Lorraine Corn Shannon and Leo Patrick Shannon, his brother, Thomas Shannon, and son, Jason Shannon.He is survived by his wife of almost 20 years, Zelma M. Shannon; his daughter, Nicole Janes and husband, Larry Janes; grandsons, Dylan Janes and Tristan Shannon; and great grandson, Wyatt Janes; Larry Shannon and David Shannon, Joe’s brothers, also survive him.
