Julia Anne Mccarthy Mcentire

Julia Anne McEntire peacefully passed away May 21, 2025, after an over 2 year long battle with Pancreatic cancer

Julia was born in Kansas City, Missouri on July 3, 1951 to Marguerite and John McCarthy, and was the middle sister to Susan Gross and Mary Lilly. She lived with her family in Ohio, Indiana, and Georgia before moving to Tonawanda, New York. She attended high school at Cardinal O’Hara High School in Tonawanda and graduated in 1969. She was a proud graduate of Texas Christian University, where she earned her nursing degree.

A voracious and life long learner, Julia earned a nursing degree and worked as a CRNA for decades, but eventually decided to attend law school to earn her JD, in pursuit of a new career as a family law attorney at age 51. She passionately sought any opportunity to learn something new, and was incredible at anything new she tried. She was an avid hobbyist who enjoyed reading (especially Stephen King novels or mysteries set in Ireland,) quilting, needlepoint, genealogy, and numerous other creative and enriching activities throughout her life. She especially loved Antiques Roadshow, British comedies, game shows, traveling, quilting, spending quality time with her family, friends, her cats, Belle and Panda, and her dog, Dublin. Julia was never one to sit still, and was always seeking new activities to try.

Julia brought happiness and vibrancy to any room she walked into– she was playful, thoughtful, and truly believed that life should be lived fully and joyfully, and she did just that. She worked diligently in all stages of her career, but also enjoyed watching her favorite shows and horror movies, and absolutely loved traveling to see Broadway shows— her favorites of which were Hello Dolly, Pippin, and of course, Wicked.

To Julia, family was the center of her universe and nothing made her more proud or happier than celebrating all of life’s small moments with them. She was an incredibly loving wife to her husband, Matt, a proud mother to her son, William, and the world’s best “Goggie” to her granddaughter, Olivia, and is loved and celebrated by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family. She will be remembered fondly by others who considered her a second mom or Goggie as well.

Julia will be remembered by countless people whose lives she left an unforgettable impression on. She is survived by her husband, Matt McEntire, son William Wells (Danielle,) granddaughter Olivia Turner (Riley,) and sister, Mary (Mike,) as well as her beloved nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, and her pets, Panda, Belle, and Dublin.

Julia was greeted in Heaven by her mother and father, Marguerite and John McCarthy, sister Susan Gross and brother in law, Linton Gross, aunt Virginia McAvoy, maternal grandparents Conrad and Fern Alexander, and paternal grandparents Bernard and Bertha McCarthy, and many other loved ones.

Her family is deeply thankful for the incredible medical team that supported Julia through her battle. Specifically they would like to thank Dr. Mary Milam and her incredible nurses, Dr. Janice Knebl, and the staff at The Stayton at Museum Way.

Visitation and viewing: Tuesday, May 27, 2025 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with Family Remarks and a Rosary beginning a t 7:00 p.m. at Thompson’s Harveson and Cole Funeral Home, 4350 River Oaks Blvd., Fort Worth, TX 76114.

Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, 1201 S Cherry Lane, White Settlement, TX 76108.

Interment: 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 29, 2025 at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park, 5725 Colleyville Blvd, Colleyville, TX 76034.
