Margaret Brown

d. October 5, 2021

Margaret Brown, a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, left this world peacefully on October 5, 2021 at the age of 84. Born in Cuero, Texas on Sept. 18, 1937 to Camilo and Juanita Zapata, she was the second to the youngest child in a family of 9 children. She attended school in Cuero and remained a loyal Gobblers fan throughout her life. When she was 15, Margaret met her forever sweetheart, John. She took him home to meet her mother, and from that point on, they were rarely apart. They married on October 24, 1956. Both were eager to build a life together and start a family.Margaret was involved in Family Services while her husband served in the Air Force; then, shifted her focus to serving her church through choir and altar linen ministry as well as the Guadalupana Women’s Group. She led a local Rosary group in her home and worked to help the homeless and hungry in downtown Houston.Nothing brought Margaret more joy than spending time with her family. She loved cooking and baking and made everyone feel welcome in her home. Margaret was faithful and didn’t waiver in her commitment to what the Lord could do for others and what He had done for her in her own life. She knew more tough times than most, but she held steady to the truth that God was always beside her.Margaret was preceded in death by: her son, James Patrick Brown; her daughter, Elizabeth Ann Govednik; and her grandson, Adam Douglas Brown.
